The recently concluded 5th Edition of the Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE) has been billed as one of the most successful fairs having gained a 40% increase in the number of exhibitors in comparison to the previous year.
The number of County Government showcases grew from six to eleven while regional tourism boards and airlines registered new entrants.
Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) Managing Director Muriithi Ndegwa indicated that the event would soon become ‘a global tourism fair’. “We are graduating from a regional tourism show to accommodate broader global audiences, given the rate at which the expo is growing,” he said.

While opening the event held at the Leisure Lodge Resort, Diani in Kwale, East African Affairs, Commerce and Tourism Cabinet Secretary Phyllis Kandie said the presence of around 180 hosted buyers in the expo will further help in increasing awareness on Kenyan destinations to potential visitors.
In a good light, she said “Kenya’s brand awareness will be enhanced by the tourism fair which continues to profile the destination positively”.
Kwale County Governor Salim Mvurya hailed KTB for holding the event in the county saying, “this expo is a confirmation of Kwale’s suitability as home to Africa’s leading beach, Diani”.
